Another very useful, though far from trustworthy,
printed (but not actually compiled) genealogical source is the local
newspaper of the geographical area where your ancestor lived. Obituaries,
marriage and engagement stories and announcements, birth announcements,
probate court proceedings (legal notices), notes of thanks (statements by
families of deceased persons expressing appreciation for sympathies
extended), news items, etc., can all be sources of important family data.
